| Facts Sheba's are descended from primitive dogs of Japan. They were bred to hunt small game, boars and bears. They are a medium sized dog with females being 13 1/2" to 15 1/2" and males 14 1/2" to 16 1/2" in height at the withers. They should not exceed 25 lbs. Shiba's are medium boned, compact, well muscled, and very agile. They are very active as puppies but seem to mellow with age but are still energetic. Fenced yards are a must unless you live in an apartment. A shiba will use any opportunity to get free and will bolt if given the chance and should never be off it's leash unless in a secure area. Puppy socialization and obedience is a must. Shiba's can be aggressive unless given a proper education. They can be strong willed and possessive of their things and people, they need to learn proper manners. Puppies tend to use their mouths to "taste" their humans and they must learn not to be rough.
